When you donated your clothes did you think about where they would go?   If you read the box, you'd probably think the clothes are going to help the poor people in developing countries.  That is what they claim on their box right?

Planet Aid gets all the clothes that they collect for free, donated by generous people who do not want to see their decent used clothes go to waste or get thrown away.  Planet Aid sells most of the clothes to support this clothes collection effort, so they claim, and whatever is left over is used to help support development projects in Africa and other developing countries.

However, there is more to the story than that.  They sell the collected clothes to a company named Garson and Shaw, a for-profit company that buys and sells second hand clothes.  No big deal right?  Well, it turns out that the same people that are running Planet Aid, are also running Garson and Shaw, ......... Humana.

So in reality, Planet Aid is not getting top dollar for their used clothes.

Now you can see why most of the money goes towards collecting the clothes, because they are not getting enough money for the clothes in the first place, .....but there's more !

The clothes that are left over, are supposed to support development projects.  These projects are run by the same group of people. The clothes are sent to these projects in developing countries, where they are sold as second hand clothing, and all of the proceeds go to Humana.
